Hey there, it’s just me!

I wanted to share something that I think a lot of us ladies—especially in our fabulous 50s and beyond—can relate to. If you’ve ever felt frustrated with your health, worn down by inflammation, or like your body just isn’t bouncing back the way it used to… you’re not alone.
As you know, I’ve been on this health journey for a little while now—fueling my body with high-protein foods, staying active, and embracing intermittent fasting. And let me tell you—knowing what’s actually happening inside my body during those fasting hours has made all the difference. It’s not just about eating less—it’s about healing, restoring, and giving my body the time and space to do what God designed it to do.
So what exactly happens when you fast?
Let me break it down in plain terms, because once I understood it, everything just clicked:
- 0–4 hours after eating: Your body is digesting and storing energy. This is the “refuel” phase. No fat burning happens here yet.
- 4–12 hours after eating: Now your insulin levels begin to drop, and your body starts tapping into stored energy—hello, fat burning!
- 12–24 hours: Fat burning ramps up. Your body is using stored fat for fuel, and that’s when weight loss really begins.
- 24+ hours: This is where the magic happens. Your body goes into repair mode—reducing inflammation, cleaning out damaged cells, and helping you feel better all around.
I’ve personally experienced less bloating, less pain from diverticulitis, and better blood sugar levels. I used to snack constantly. Now, with high-protein meals and a closed eating window (mine ends at 8 PM), I feel satisfied and more in control.
I’m not chasing skinny. I’m chasing health. I’m down a couple pounds, but more importantly—my body feels alive again. I’m walking faster, limping less, and my husband sees the change without me even having to say anything.
It’s been a blessing.
This journey isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress. I’ve even gotten my husband to eat spinach (yes, really!) by sneaking it into egg cups, and he’s loving it.
The best part? My faith has carried me through. God has reminded me that my body is His temple, and it deserves love and care. One scripture that keeps me focused is:
1 Corinthians 10:31 (KJV) Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
That includes how I care for my body day by day.
So friend, if you’re feeling stuck or tired or like your best days are behind you—I want to encourage you: they’re not. Start where you are. Even small changes matter. Whether it’s moving your body from a chair or swapping white rice for brown, you can turn things around.
Intermittent fasting isn’t the answer for everyone—but it has been for me. I’m living proof that healing is possible, and that there’s still so much joy ahead. Let’s not let poor health steal it from us.
